What if Women Ruled the World?
Group Show
October 12, 2023 to January 14, 2024
"Herstory", New Museum, New York
February 20 - 26, 2023
Lieu37 and La Cité Audacieuse, Paris
DANAE.IO is pleased, in collaboration with DMINTI, to present a unique participatory artwork, created by two generations of artists deeply engaged in the feminist movement, Judy Chicago and Nadya Tolokonnikova
Judy Chicago and Nadya Tolokonnikova invite all those who share feminist values and gender equality to make their voices heard from New York to Mexico, from New Delhi to Paris. These voices will take the form of collaboratively created artworks. This international project is inspired by the banners created by Judy Chicago, 'What If Women Ruled the World,' in collaboration with Maria Grazia Chiuri for the Dior Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2020 fashion show.
"What If Women Ruled the World?" is currently being exhibited in "Herstory", the New Museum's first comprehensive survey of Judy Chicago's work, curated by Massimiliano Gioni, from October 12, 2023 to January 14, 2024.
Two exhibitions also took place in France in 2023, showcasing this artwork:
- at Cité Audacieuse, a Parisian space dedicated to gender equality and the promotion of women's rights around an ecosystem of feminist associations and solidarity initiatives. The City of Paris was a pioneer with the creation of La Cité Audacieuse, launched in March 2020 with the Fondation des Femmes.
- at Lieu37 in Paris during the Group Show, Nexus Femina. This group show brought together and celebrated feminist artists from around the world. Each woman or man was invited to record her voice on the central question "What if women ruled the world?" The selected answers were digitally assembled to create a monumental participatory artwork by Judy Chicago.
