Cloud Canyon (b65c,7000-19,5,14,21,48,24)

2019

Young's work with AI exists in contrast to conventional AI applications which use massive amounts of training data. Instead he uses a handful of his own photos to train the machine. Nothing that emerges is accurate, but the work isn’t asking for accuracy — it’s asking for the machine to build its own unique vision of the natural world. The resulting images force the viewer to confront the imperfections of the technology and how training data, which is inherently biased, can never give an complete view of the world.

The Cloud Canyon series are based on photos he took in the hills of Griffith Park, Los Angeles in the early spring of 2019
